Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick

 

The celebration of the Anointing of the Sick consists essentially in the anointing of the forehead and hands of the sick person, the anointing being accompanied by the liturgical prayer of the celebrant asking for the special grace of this sacrament.(United States Catholic Catechism for Adults, page 253 – 255) 

 

It can be received by any baptized Catholic its effect is the strengthening of the soul, often of the body as well, and in the necessary conditions remission of sins. The Anointing should be administered to people who are seriously ill and caregivers should not wait until the patient is critically ill or when death is imminent.

 

The parish priests are responsible for the sick within their own parish boundaries. 

 

In addition, Priests of the churches closest to the hospitals are also available for any hospitalized Catholic who requires a priest's attention. They make visits to the hospitals and give Holy Communion to the sick. If informed, they will also visit you.
