Soup Kitchen
"Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up to heaven, thanked God for them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. They all ate and had enough, and the disciples took up twelve baskets of what was left over." - Luke 9:16-17
Our mission is to provide food and distribute it to people in the community. We do not discriminate whoever that need or want it. Whether you wish to have the food indefinitely or for just a short period of time, you are welcome to receive it. The food is provided by Willing Hearts, a non profit organization that provides us the food to distribute daily. Through theirs and the many generous donors from people in and out of the parish, we hope to bring some relief to those who are in dire straits by sharing Jesus' love with them.
Our Soup Kitchen started on 2nd April 2010 and have been providing food to the community up to today. In all, we are providing food for more than 150 people and it is still growing. These individuals comprise of people from different races and religions whom we have been helping ever since. They are served by dedicated volunteers who have come forward to spend time to help them. We provide food every Monday to Saturday including public holidays with the exception of Sundays. Every month, we also distribute basic ration consisting of oil, rice, sugar, noodles, etc. In addition, we also organize parties and bring our needy for special events organized by different charity groups outside the parish.
Since our humble beginnings, we worked hard to publicize that we are able to help people by providing them food. Through word of mouth, putting up banners, meeting up with Boon Lay's constituency's MP and the Residence Committee, we are glad that we were able to reach out to the people we have been feeding all this while. Nevertheless, we are certain that there are many who are still not in the know of our presence. We hope all parishioners could help to spread the word and to look out for the many in the community who are in need of our help by directing them to us. Our role, first and foremost is to provide food for daily sustenance. Other than that, we will try our best to help in any other aspects when we are able. This is by directing the person to the right church or government ministry or charitable organization that we know may help or any other means available.
If anyone would like to volunteer their time in the Soup Kitchen, please contact Kevin Tan at 9067-7322 or email kevintan12@yahoo.com. If you do not have the time, but wish to contribute money that will be spent on providing basic necessities for the needy, you can pass cash to our church's secretary or a cheque for 'Church of St. Francis of Assisi' with 'For Soup Kitchen' written behind it.
Cash or raw supply assistance is also required by Willing Hearts, the organization that provides us the food. They cook more than 2,000 packets of food for various soup kitchens in Singapore daily. A large amount of raw supplies are needed for this. If you wish to assist them, please contact Tony Tay at 9690-2086.
